San Jose Custom Upholstery has served San Jose and the surrounding Bay Area communities for more than twenty-five years. It started as one upholsterer with a set of hand tools and a conviction that furniture should be repaired properly or not at all.
That has not changed. We are still small on purpose. There is no call center, no sales team, no subcontracting your sofa out to a shop you have never heard of. You talk to the people doing the work, and if we think a piece is not worth the money it would take to save it, we will tell you that too.
Over the years the work has widened — from living room furniture to restaurant booths, medical waiting rooms, school seating, boat cushions and RV dinettes — but the method is the same on all of it. Strip it down. Fix what is underneath. Build it back properly.
Four things we will not compromise on.
Frame first
No new fabric goes over an unsound frame. Joints get reglued and doweled, springs retied, webbing replaced — before anything decorative happens.
Honest quotes
Free estimates with no obligation. If we open a piece up and find something we did not expect, we call you before we spend another dollar of your money.
Realistic timelines
We tell you how long it will actually take, not how long you want to hear. Most residential pieces run two to three weeks once the fabric arrives.
Materials that last
High-density foam cut to your piece. Contract-grade fabrics where they belong. Marine vinyl and UV thread on anything that lives outdoors.
A large selection — or bring your own.
We carry books from Charlotte Fabrics, Barrow Industries and Greenhouse Fabrics, covering everything from delicate silks for antique pieces to heavy contract-grade weaves rated for restaurant and healthcare use.
Plenty of customers arrive with their own material, and that is completely fine. We will tell you honestly whether it suits the piece, how it is likely to wear, and exactly how much yardage you need before you buy it.
